Spread the Word Saturday

1)Consumption

  • Water- brushed teeth twice, 4 minute shower, flushed 4 times, washed hands 4 times
  • Food- English muffin, granola bar, half a sandwich, caesar salad
  • Electricity- Lights, computer, television
  • Gasoline- Took bus to and from my job
  • Money- $3.20 for bus fare

2) Reduction

I lectured my grandparents about their water usage. Course I’ve been doing it for two years, so hopefully it’ll stick.

3)Sustainablity

Can stand to use some things less than I do, such as television—it’s not like there’s anything worth watching…

4)Peers

People have taken this project seriously. Everyone is trying to reduce something they can make a difference- even if it’s small.

Day Five: Techy Tursday

1)Consumption

  • water- took a 6 minute shower, drank 64 oz. of water, washed my hands several times, and flushed the toilet several times
  • food- 2 pieces of toast, a chicken sandwich, chicken, rice and salad
  • electricity/tech- didn’t turn on my computer till around 8, lights came on at 7, didn’t listen to music on the way home, used the stove to cook and I avoided texting
  • gasoline- took the train and the bus to school, and the same way home

2)Reduction

I’m slowly managing to cut down my shower time. I more or less kept my distance from technology if I didn’t need to.

3)Sustainability

I can definitely reduce the amount of electricity I use.Keeping the lights off until it gets dark is (now that I think about it) common sense. The internet is VERY boring except for a few things and there’s nothing on tv anyway. though I should keep my showers short, they feel awesome in the morning before caffeine.

4)Peers

I’ve started enjoying all the random images that people post, and the progress they show. The sustainablity section that I read in other people post is really making me think about implementing these changes in the long term.

Day Three: Try Hard Tuesday

1)Consumption

  • Water- a single 32 oz. of water during the day, a cup of tea in the morning, and a glass of water for dinner. Showered for 8 minutes today, washing my hands and flushing toilets…I lost count
  • Food- Cereal, Turkey sandwich, apple, small bowl of pasta for dinner
  • Gasoline- Walked to train station and took the commuter rail and the bus to school, then took the commuter rail on the way home.
  • Electricity-Same as yesterday, except for computer usage which decreased to 3hrs.
  • Money-Spent 1.50$ on gum. I’m not proud of this.

2)Reduction

Today I kept following the trends I’ve established for myself. I’ve stayed away from the interweb as best I can, but I did end up spending money on something unnecessary. Regardless, I consider today to be a milf success.

3)Sustainablity

These trends that we’ve collectively fallen into are sustainable. Though I spent money, that’s bound to happen once in a while. It’s impossible to complelety break my habits, but controlling them is something I can do.

4)Peers

Everyone is doing what they can, and it’s helping me realize what I can do to cut back.

Day Two: Money Monday

1)Consumption

  • Water- 1 32 0z. of water, 8 minute shower, 3 toilet flushes, 6 minutes while shaving
  • Food- Toast for breakfast, Sandwich and Apple for lunch, Soup for dinner
  • Gasoline- Took public transportation (Commuter rail and Bus)
  • Electricity- 4hrs of computer for homework and this, 15 minutes for etc. 3hrs of Lights for…well light.
  • Money- 0$ :)

2)Reduction

I spent no money today, which is big cause I almost always spend money on Monday. Electricity on my part was minimal, computer usage included, and I obviously can’t account for electricity usage while I’m not home.

3Sustainablity

I can easily maintain this lifestyle, because this is more or less how I already live. I could probably cut down on computer time by at least an hour. But I will have to spend money eventually, and only when necessary.

4) It’s great to see that people aren’t spending money, it makes me want to do the same. The fact that people are cutting down their media usage makes me realizes we could be doing so many more meaningful things instead of writing a blog on Tumblr. Just kidding :D

Day One: Sunday

1)Consumption

  • Water- 2 16 oz. bottles of water, 7 minute shower, 4 toilet flushes
  • Food- 1 egg for breakfast, Leftover Chinese food for dinner
  • Gasoline- 0$
  • Electricity- 4hours of computer, 2 hours of television

2)Reduction

Today I took as shorter shower, which is usually around 10-15 minutes, and I refilled a 16 oz. water bottle while I was out once. I didn’t charge my cell phone today, and I only used the computer for homework and… well this. I didn’t go out of my area today. didn’t turn up the heat, it remained at 65. Didn’t buy anything today, but i rarely do.

3)Sustainability

I keep this up. Staying away from Facebook and the interweb actually helped me get stuff done earlier. The reducing my shower time would also be better for me, health and schedule wise. I don’t drink a lot of water to begin with, and I don’t get cold at home easily. This is gonna be a quick week.
